Approximately 800 years after Bodhidharma a monk named Chueh Yaun , along with Li Sou and Pai Yu Feng developed a system within the confines of the Shaolin Temple at Honan consisting of the Five Animal forms; Dragon, Crane, Panther (Leopard), Snake and Tiger. Each having different, outstanding and distinctive features designed to develop 5 aspects of our being, to condition our entire body. Physical strength, bone development, libido, chi and internal spirit. Around 1907 shorlty after the boxer rebellion, at the age of sixteen Chi Wei Kung came to study under monk Yen Chi Wen, where he would learn various temple and non-temple styles specializing in Bai Lung (White Dragon). During this time China was again under great turmoil and in 1928 the temple was destroyed again (speculation of two previous detructions 1570 and 1768). The monks, nuns, and disciples of Shaolin fled throughout China taking the deadliest secrets of thier martial arts underground. Some styles would later emerge during peaceful times and some may have been lost forever. It is theorized that Chi Wei Kung continued to cultivate Yen Chi Bai Lung Pai and is believed to have studied with other masters and to have trained in another temple at Omeishan mountain. We may never be certain if history is accurate due to time, changes in techniques, blending with other styles, misinterpretations or deletion through mistrust. Nevertheless Yen Chi Bai Lung Pai seems to have survived and spread with countless variations to suit personal tastes and ability. Whether it is called Bai Lung, Pai Lum, Pai Lum Tao, Pai Te Lung, Book Leen Pai or Pai Lung Kuen Po, the essence of White Dragon teaches us to balance energy in all realms of life.
